A parchment roll, six membranes, concerning the levy in the borough of Southwark of the first of the three subsidies levied by Parliament on 24 March 1593, to be collected over four years, 1593-1596. The certificate is dated 21 August 1593 and on the dorse of memb.6 is a note recording that the document was returned into the Exchequer on 7 November of the same year. The document includes names from St Saviour (including Clink Liberty and Paris Garden), St Olave, St Thomas, and St George. Only the St Saviour portions are reproduced here. Further details.
