Return to Subsidy List |
A parchment roll of six membranes. Names of St Saviour parishioners are on membs.1r-2v. The document is faded and hard to read. Earlier conservators painted over the first membrane of this document with a now-darkened substance, making many readings difficult, and some impossible, to recover. Therefore, all readings on the first membrane of this document, and many on other membranes, are provisional. This includes the certificate on m.1, which relates this assessment for Southwark to the third of the three subsidies granted to James I in May 1624, and which was payable by 10 May 1625. The date on which the assessment was drawn up is irrecoverable, but it should have been completed before 30 March 1625. A faint note on the dorse of memb.6, which is legible under UV light, gives a return date of 13 April 1625. Further details. |
