Return to Subsidy List

A single parchment sheet, a certificate of non-distraint for the borough of Southwark, relating to the second payment of the subsidy levied by Parliament on 13 March 1585.  The collectors certify they have been unable to collect the assessed sums from those named in the document, or to distrain goods to the relevant value.  The document is prose, not a list, and the relevant St Saviour names have been reproduced as written.  Further details
